Trash & Recycling

Trash Collection

Trash is collected by Refuse Removal Results (301-990-3533) and is included in the monthly HOA fee. Trash is picked up on Monday and Thursday mornings. Trash must be out by 7:00 AM (or placed out the night before). When one of the following holidays falls on a regular pick-up day, the trash will be collected on the next scheduled trash day:

Thanksgiving Day
Christmas Day
New Years Day

Trash pick-up for other holidays will follow the normal schedules. Please note that the community does not follow Montgomery County schedule changes for trash pickup, only for recycling.

When putting out trash, please keep the following in mind:

  • Please do not put out your trash until the evening before collection; please wait until after dark. If you place it out on collection day, it must be out by 7:00 AM.
  • County law requires trash to be put in sealed, solid containers (like rubber trash cans). Using paper or plastic grocery bags, light-weight leaf bags, and the like, invites wild animals to tear into the trash.
  • Bulk pick-ups of large items must be arranged with RRR separately.
  • Please pick up any debris spilled or left near your home; it will deter rodents and other pests from frequenting the area.
  • For those that live in houses that run perpendicular to Brewer House Road, trash may be placed in the alley behind your house for collection.
  • All yard waste is to be recycled with Montgomery County. Yardwaste must be placed in large paper bags which can be purchased at a grocery or hardware store. They cannot take any construction debris or liquids. Metal is also recycled with Montgomery County. Please call 240-777-6410 to schedule the pick-up.

Recycling

Each home is assigned a blue recycling container which must be marked with the house number. If you are in need of a blue recycling container, you can complete the Blue Bin Order Form from the Division of Solid Waste Services to order one for no charge.

Containers should be placed at the common curb for Friday pick-up.

No recycling collection will occur on the following holidays:

New Years Day
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
Memorial Day
July 4th
Labor Day
Thanksgiving Day
Christmas Day

When your recycling day falls on one of these holidays, collection will be made the next day. To accommodate this holiday collection "slide", all other scheduled recycling collections for the remainder of the week also will occur one day later than usual.

The county currently collects:

  • newspaper (including supplements)
  • sizes one and two plastic bottles (cleaned, without caps)
  • clean aluminum foil and tin cans and lids
  • all glass jars (cleaned, without caps)
No other kind of glass or paper is permitted. Newspapers must be put out in paper grocery bags, or else tied in string, so long as the stack is not deeper than a full grocery bag. Any plastic bags or wrappers will either cause rejection of your load, or will be tossed out on the ground.

If you need to put out more than one container-load, a cardboard box may be used, but will only be emptied, not collected. Your contents should be arranged so that light-weight items such as plastic milk cartons or soda bottles are not picked up by wind.

The County monitors compliance. Compliance results in less trash going to the dump, and this is one of the few measures a community can take to control the cost of refuse removal.
